CANADIAN fight fans must wonder when their luck will change after UFC light-heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier withdrew from his main event title fight at UFC 206.
The last two pay-per-view events held in Canada featured pound-for-pound star Demetrious ‘Mighty Mouse’ Johnson who, despite his unrivalled fighting ability, isn’t one of the UFC’s biggest draws.
But hopes were high for the December 10 event as Cormier was set to take on Anthony ‘Rumble’ Johnson in a hotly-anticipated rematch.
That was before news broke that ‘DC’ had been KO’d by injury before a punch had even been thrown.
Cormier was ruled out of the December 10 bout due to a torn groin, leaving Johnson without an opponent, and without a shot at the title.
After news broke Cormier tweeted Johnson to apologise for his withdrawal, while Johnson tweeted a message of support for his injured opponent.
The UFC are currently exploring options for a new main event, with Brit Jimi ‘Posterboy’ Manuwa tweeting a little nudge to UFC president Dana White to let him know he’s around if needed.
