Punk’s arrival attracted a lot of criticism from the sport’s purists, who believe athletes have to reach a certain standard before being worthy of a spot in the UFC.

But his star power from his time as a pro wrestler – he was one of the biggest stars in the WWE – has helped him jump the queue and get him a spot on the UFC roster, despite not having any competitive combat sports experience.

However, Punk’s grounded, respectful attitude to the sport and dedication to preparing for his debut has started to attract praise from within the sport, with the Chicago native hooking up with the respected Roufusport team in Milwaukee to prepare for his UFC bow.

With the fight rapidly approaching, the UFC has released a multi-part documentary on FOX Sports in the US, called The Evolution of Punk, where we take a warts-and-all look at the former WWE star’s struggles as he looks to get ready for the biggest physical test of his athletic career.
