UFC lightweight stars Rafael dos Anjos and Tony Ferguson ready to stake their title claims in Mexico City

CONOR McGregor may be lining up for a shot at history as he challenges Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205, but behind him there’s a queue of killers waiting for the next shot.

And two of the very best contenders in the UFC’s talent-stacked 155lb division will go head to head in the main event of The Ultimate Fighter Latin America Finale in Mexico City on November 5.

Former UFC lightweight champ Rafael dos Anjos and in-form contender Tony Ferguson will do battle in that bout looking to position themselves as the next man in line for a shot at the undisputed UFC lightweight title.

Both men already have impressive CVs. Former champ dos Anjos will be keen on exacting revenge on current champ Eddie Alvarez after the Philadelphia man stopped him inside a round to capture the title in July.

But if McGregor beats Alvarez in New York it’ll give the Brazilian the chance to face McGregor in the bout that the pair were supposed to have earlier this year, before a foot injury ruled dos Anjos out of the contest.

And, like McGregor, ‘RDA’ has an impressive win over Nate Diaz to his name, having dominated the California man for three rounds back at UFC on FOX in Phoenix in December 2014.

For Ferguson, the bout in Mexico represents the biggest opportunity of his MMA career.

Ferguson has been on a supreme run of form, winning eight in a row – including six inside the distance – en route to this top contender bout with dos Anjos.

And the unorthodox, relentless Ferguson believes it’s his destiny to hold UFC championship gold as he gets set to stake his claim with victory over the former champion.

His all-out war with Brazilian Edson Barboza last December was rightly rated as one of the UFC’s fights of 2016.

And the man known as ‘El Cucuy’ will look to showcase his unique blend of exciting technique and high-risk offence when he takes on dos Anjos in Mexico on November 5.
