UFC star Leon Edwards targeting top 10 with Rotterdam Fight Night win after agony of cornering up-and-coming brother Fabian

UFC STAR Leon Edwards cannot wait to get back in the octagon, putting his life on the line, after the far scarier experience of being in the corner for his little brother.

Baby bro Fabian has followed his hero into the cage, after Mrs Edwards got the ball rolling, carving out an unbeaten amateur record and now a 2-0 professional career.

Leon has been in the corner for every bout – including the incredible flying-knee KO win at Bellator London in May – but it has been hell watching his little sibling follow in his footsteps.

Their brotherly dream-team is working perfectly for Birmingham stars – just don’t compare them to Diaz brothers Nate and Nick.

Edwards told SunSport: “We are a fighting family and things are going well for us right now.

“My brother is doing well after he got that knock-out at Bellator London, he is here with me now in Rotterdam.

“We are just keeping it within the family.

“F*** the Diaz brothers – it’s just about the Edwards brothers now.

“My mum got me in to it to keep me out of trouble and then my brother followed in my footsteps.

“She does not watch my fights but growing up there were only certain ways you could go, growing up where we were from, so she got me to put my energy into martial arts and it is paying off.

“We train together, it is all under one roof. We spar and wrestle and roll and work together most days.

“I am the big brother so sometimes I have to put my foot down with him if he gets too much but it is usually all good.

“I have cornered him for all his fights from amateur to the pros.

“I always say I would rather be the one fighting than the one cornering – I hate cornering.

“In the corner the nerves are mad so I would always rather do the fighting.”

This weekend at UFC Fight Night Rotterdam – on the main card – Leon is chasing a fourth win on the spin and a shot at the UFC’s top men at welterweight.

A hat-trick of wins have taken Leon up to the cusp of the top-20 and a fourth win against Bryan Barberena on Saturday should get him a champagne name in the US.

Edwards said: “I think I will get that big fight I want, 100 per cent, but I think I have to put this guy away.

“I should then be set-up for a shot against a guy in the top 10 or 15.

“Hopefully after this win I should be challenging for a good fight.

“I don’t think it matters what he has, I am going in there to get the win so what he does will not matter.”
