Undefeated Welsh prospect Brett Johns breaks into tears after hearing he’s signed with the UFC

JUST like London buses, you wait ages for one Welshman to sign for the UFC and then we get two in quick succession.

Joining Jack Marshman in the ranks of the world’s biggest MMA organisation is former Cage Warriors champ Brett Johns, who is set to make his debut on the same event as his fellow countryman, UFC Fight Night Belfast.

Talking to BBC Radio Wales, Johns said that he’ll be proud to represent the Welsh when he steps into the Octagon to face fellow undefeated South Korean prospect Kwan Ho Kwak on November 19.

“There’s two Welsh boys and it’s not a win for me or for my team, it’s a win for Wales,” he said.

“I’ve fought on smaller promotions before now, such as Celtic Warriors, and I was a champion there. I fought on Pain Pit, an organisation in Wales, I was a champion there.

“I fought in Cage Warriors, which was the biggest promotion in Europe, and I won a world title there.

“I went out to the States to fight for a company called Titan Fighting Championship and I won a world title there.

“Wherever I go I win belts and it’s the same story here. It’ll be me going out trying to win a world title UFC belt and I will get there in the end.”

Nicknamed ‘The Pikey’, bantamweight prospect Johns enters the UFC with a perfect professional record of 12 wins, no losses.

And the 24-year-old broke down in tears when he was told by his manager Brian Butler-Au that he’d been signed by the promotion.

“I guess the news is out guys!” he posted on Facebook.

“I am so grateful to all who have helped me in my career!

“I found out a few days ago with Chris (Reese) on a Skype call with Brian Butler-Au as soon as I heard the news I instantly started crying.”
