2016 was a record-breaking year for Bolt as he repeated his achievements at the 2008 and 2012 Olympics by winning gold in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay for Jamaica.

That “triple triple” means he is the most decorated ever Olympian on the track.

And his three golds in Rio saw him named 2016 World Athlete of the Year, with long distance runner Almaz Ayana winning the female prize.

He said of the award: “This is definitely a big deal. When you get athlete of the year it means all the hard work has paid off.

“This one also means as much to me as the first. ”

Bolt is set to retire after the World Championships in London this summer, but understands those high up in the athletics world would love him to reconsider.

The 30-year-old joked: “I know [IAAF President] Seb Coe doesn’t want me to retire!”

But despite all his achievements on the track, there is one dream the greatest sprinter of all-time might not be able to fulfil – becoming a professional footballer.

He was seen training with French amateur side JS Saint-Jean Bealulieu and missing the goal with two simple headers.
