SALFORD may land Wakefield winger Mason Caton-Brown as soon as this week after Toronto Wolfpack agreed to step aside.
After losing out to the Canadians in the race to land Warrington’s Matty Russell, the Red Devils are believed to be ready to bring in 24-year-old Caton-Brown on loan with a view to a permanent deal.
But sources say it took the Championship side to agree to let them move for him before any deal can be discussed, paving the way for a return to Salford.
As a result, Caton-Brown could now be in Ian Watson’s side to face Catalans at Magic Weekend on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Wigan have gone ballistic at Catalans Dragons for swiping Sam Tomkins away from them – providing they stay in Super League.
The now former England full-back, 29, has signed a three-year deal with an option of a fourth at the French outfit after confirming he is leaving the Warriors.
But rugby director Kris Radkinski revealed they have told the Dragons what they think of them, and it was not pretty.
He said: “It came as a surprise to us that another club had engaged with Sam so early in the year when the deadline for approaching a player under contract is at the end of April. We have made our feelings known about this to the club involved.
“Sam told us that the opportunity for him and his family to experience a different culture and lifestyle and to see his kids speaking another language was something that really appealed to him.
“Nothing lasts forever – and as a club we have to constantly evolve. Players will come and players will go.”
