Wales star Regan Grace ‘has to win’ to avoid stick from St Helens team-mates

REGAN Grace is hell bent on rounding off his World Cup with a win – as the stick he will take from Kyle Amor and Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook would be incessant otherwise.

The St Helens trio face each other in the first of tomorrow’s double header in Perth.

And the winger knows the forward duo will be hounding him constantly unless John Kear’s men get the win.

Grace said: “That’s the biggest motivation for me. I don’t want to spend all of next season with those two giving it to me – we’ve got to give them a good hiding.

“We’ve had messages saying we’re going to give it to each other in the game. None of it is printable, though!”

As results go, Wales’ World Cup has been a disaster having conceded 122 points in two games.

But Grace, who highlights another St Helens ace, Morgan Knowles, as an example through his performances for the Dragons, believes he will be better for the experience.

Certainly seeing how crazy fans are in Papua New Guinea are for the game will stick with him.

The 20-year-old added: “It really opened my eyes, it was a real experience.

“You have to see it for yourself. One every patch of grass, there’s someone playing rugby – we went past a roundabout and kids were having a full game on it!

“We even saw kids playing rugby in a quarry. It was insane, I couldn’t believe how mad it is.

“So far we haven’t done well but if everyone’s on board, we’ve definitely got a good chance.

“It doesn’t matter where you’re playing, we’ve got firemen, but if everyone has the same motive, players are just as capable as Super League players.

“And I definitely think I’ll be a better player. Even just knowing I can play in these kinds of conditions against NRL players, I’d happily do it again.”
