And Bale netted in each of the group matches as the Dragons stunned England to top the table.

His three-goal haul makes him the tournament's top goalscorer.

And with several of the early matches turning out to be duds, Switzerland, Albania, Romania, Russia, Germany, Poland, Northern Ireland, Ukraine, Czech Republic, Turkey, Sweden, Ireland, Iceland, Portugal and Austria cannot match Bale.

The Cardiff-born flier's latest strike against Russia was the third goal in a 3-0 romp over Russia.

Bale was released by Ramsey and coolly slotted past the onrushing Igor Akinfeev.

His other efforts both came from his trademark free-kicks in the win over Slovakia and last-minute defeat against England.

In addition, Bale will have at least one game to smash another tournament record.

Michel Platini's 15 shots on target is the benchmark and Bale already has 12 from the three games so far.

Wales have scored six goals in three matches so far, with Hal Robson-Kanu, Aaron Ramsey and Neil Taylor also on target.

Chris Coleman's Dragons -renowned for their stoic defence - are the tournament's highest scorers ahead of hosts France and Spain on four each.

Spain's 3-0 thrashing of Turkey and Belgium's routing of Ireland are the only games to see three-goal wins.
