THEY say the Adidas Predator boot is a true revolution..and many a world class footballer will swear as much.
But maybe they’re just a modern day version of footwear that was popular in Roman Times.



For a recently discovered Roman leather shoe has evoked many a comparison with the Predator worn by the likes of David Beckham, Lionel Messi, Zinedine Zidane, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, Petr Cech, Dimitar Berbatov, Alessandro Del Piero and Robin van Persie.
No one can be sure of the Roman version ‘looked as good as it felt’.

And Ancient Romans were famous for wearing sandals attached to the foot by leather cords, straps or braided materials.
But this latest discovery in a Northumberland burial ground certainly isn’t legions away from the ideas dreamed up fashion-conscious designers at Adidas .
The archaeological dig was carried out by the Vindolanda Trust at Vindolanda Roman Fort near Hadrian’s Wall.


The find dates back to the Severan period in AD212 when the Roman Empire was ruled by the Roman general Septimius Severus.
But whether the Romans used their ‘boot’ as a fashion item or for chariot racing, no one from those long gone days could ever have imagined the impact a similarly-WaS LEATHERdesigned boot would have on the world of football.
