He said: “United had the stability of Sir Alex over 26 years and over the last few years they’ve been trying to find the right one.
“And I believe they have now found him. Seeing how he wants to work, how he is setting the team up — there is success around the corner.”
Rooney, 31, broke Sir Bobby Charlton’s scoring record with his 250th for the club in last weekend’s 1-1 draw at Stoke and is backing Marcus Rashford, 19, to follow in their footsteps.
He added: “If he keeps doing the right things he’ll be a great player for this club and hopefully in ten years or so he’ll be close to the record.”

Mourinho has confirmed that Bastian Schweinsteiger is back in the United squad for the Europa League.
The midfielder, 32, was on the bench against Stoke and has made only two appearances this season, against West Ham in the EFL Cup and Reading in the FA Cup.
But Morgan Schneiderlin’s move to Everton and Memphis Depay’s exit for Lyon have created openings and the ex-Germany skipper will be in the 25-man squad submitted to Uefa on Wednesday for the knockout stages.
When asked if Schweinsteiger will be selected for the competition, Mourinho said: “Yes, of course.”
