The Royals currently sit third in the league, six points behind second place Newcastle but eight points clear in the play-off places.

Reading beat off stiff competition from league rivals Nottingham Forest for his signature and will now get the chance to get further first-team experience under his belt.

Stam told Reading’s official site: “Reece is a very talented defender with a lot of potential. He is a modern defender and our style of play should suit him.

"Hopefully we can give him the stage to play, the time to grow in confidence and help him develop as a player during his time with us. So it's a good move for both clubs and we're very happy to have him in the squad for the rest of the season."

And Oxford will certainly be learning from the best with his manager enjoying an illustrious career at the likes of Manchester United, Lazio and Milan.
