West Ham transfer news: Wilfried Bony loan deal targeted with Manchester City striker then set for January move to China

WEST HAM have asked Manchester City about taking Wilfried Bony on loan until January – before the striker leaves for a mega-money move to China.

The Hammers were dealt another blow ahead of their victory over Bournemouth with the news that Andy Carroll faces up to six weeks out with a knee injury.

And that followed news £20million club-record signing Andre Ayew faces four months out after scans revealed he needs surgery on a thigh injury he picked up in the opening-game defeat to Chelsea.

Now, according to the Telegraph, boss Slaven Bilic wants Bony to bridge the cap in attack while he waits for Ayew and Carroll to return, with Bony already having an agreement in place to move onto a Chinese club in January.

He has already attempted to offload crocked striker Diafra Sakho to West Brom this summer before the £15m move fell through due to the player's back injury.

And that leaves just Enner Valencia and Argentinian Olympian Jonathan Calleri available up front.

Speaking after Michail Antonio's goal gave his team a victory in their first match at the Olympic Stadium, Bilic said: “It leaves a big question mark and a big frustration with these things that keep happening to him.

“The worst situation is when you plan around a player and make a big circle around him and say ‘he’s the one’ and then you can’t count on him all the time.

“He’d done the whole pre-season really well and he’s dedicated now to training and looking after himself. That’s why he is down and it’s a big blow for us.

“They’ve told me Andy will be out four to six weeks and I’d sign up for that now if it meant he’d be good for the rest of the season after that.”

“There’s no point in moaning. We know the situation and we just have to play differently. It’s not ideal but I want to stay positive.”
