ARGUABLY one of the best scrum-halves of his time, Greig Laidlaw has evolved as a figurehead for Scottish Rugby.

The nation’s most experienced skipper, and one of their most prolific goal scorers, Laidlaw has been a shining light for Scotland in recent years.

Soon to make a move to France at domestic level, here’s what we know about Greig Laidlaw.

How old is Greig Laidlaw? Where was he born?

Best was born on 12 October 1985, so is currently 31.

The scrum-half calls Edinburgh, Scotland home, having spent the majority of his life there prior to moving to England in 2014.

Which club teams has Laidlaw played for?

Laidlaw started his senior rugby career with Jed-Forest RFC, who currently play in Scotland’s second tier of club rugby.

Moving to Edinburgh in 2006, Laidlaw struggled to cement a place in the first team early on in his professional career. However, after re-signing with Edinburgh in 2010, he became a regular on the team sheet.

In March 2014, after earning over 130 professional caps for Edinburgh, Laidlaw announced he would be leaving Murrayfield to link up with English Premiership side Gloucester.

Unlike in England, Scottish players are not required to play for a club within Scotland Rugby in order to qualify for Test selection, leaving Laidlaw free to move south of the border.

When did Laidlaw become Scotland captain?

The scrum-half first led his country after replacing the injured Kelly Brown during Scotland’s 2013 summer tour against South Africa and Italy.

Laidlaw is now Scotland’s most capped skipper, equalling the record of 25 games on the same day as his 50th international appearance, against Ireland in March 2016.

What are Laidlaw’s international stats?

In his 56 Test appearances, Laidlaw has scored 570 points for his country, making him Scotland’s all-time third highest points scorer.

Scoring just four tries, the majority of his points have come by way of his boot, kicking 74 conversions and an incredible 134 penalty goals.

Despite his country bowing out of the 2015 Rugby World Cup in the quarter-finals stage, the scrum-half still managed to finish as the tournament’s highest points scorer, with 79 in total.

What is Greig Laidlaw’s salary?

Laidlaw’s earnings remain largely undisclosed to the public.

However, while a figure is yet to be revealed, it was reported that the Scot’s new three-year deal with Clermont boasted an “extremely competitive” salary.

Laidlaw will move to France to compete in the Top 14 at the end of Gloucester’s 2016/176 season.
