TOM DAVIES helped cement his role as a star of Everton and possibly England’s future after scoring a stunning third for his side against Manchester City – as Twitter hailed a new hero.

The young Scouser, who made his Premier League debut at the back end of last season, has impressed Toffees fans with his mature displays in the middle of the park.

Everton runs in 18-year-old Davies’ blood as the nephew of former Blues midfielder Alan Whittle, who made 74 appearances and scored 21 goals for the club – with both coming through the academy.

Like Davies, Whittle had the distinctive locks of blond hair – and he is not the only footballer in the family, with older brother Liam once on the books of Tranmere, and now in non-league.

An England youth international and current captain of England U19s, Davies was once rewarded for his international progress by being invited to train with Roy Hodgson’s senior squad last October.

Afterwards, he revealed that Hodgson told him: “Keep listening, keep learning, keep doing what you are doing."

At club level, Davies penned his first pro deal - a two-year contract - last September following his progression with David Unsworth’s Under-21s side.

He said: "I’ve been here since I was in the Under-11s so that’s around seven years now. It’s been hard at times, but enjoyable and I’m very glad I’m still here.

“To sign my first contract is all I’ve ever wanted to be honest. To get it done is really exciting and allows me to push on for the future.”
