Why is Ricky Hatton in Tyson Fury’s corner and what is his job title in the Fury camp?

TYSON FURY is back – and he’s bagged the help of The Hitman.

The Mancunian hasn’t been seen in the ring since his stunning world title victory over Wladimir Klitschko way back in November 2015.

But after well publicised battles with addiction and his mental health, the Gypsy King is back in shape and ready to make an assault on the heavyweight division.

And if you look over to his corner on fight night, Ricky Hatton will be there roaring him on.

Why is Ricky Hatton in Tyson Fury’s corner?

FURY split with his long-time trainer – uncle Peter Fury – and is now under the stewardship of Ben Davison.

And the Gypsy King’s young coach has masterminded the heavyweights transformation at Hitman’s own gym in Manchester.

Hatton has built a successful training career since hanging up his own gloves and has mentored bantamweight world champ Zhanat Zhakiyanov among others.

Davison told the Manchester Evening News: “Ricky will be helping us out and will be in the corner with us so we’re very thankful to him for that.

“Ricky is one of the best fighters that the country has ever produced and him and Tyson have a lot in common. The facilities at his gym are brilliant and we’ve got a great team now, so we’re really looking forward to the fight.

“Everybody said it was mission impossible to get Tyson back, but we’ve done it. The date is set and he’s looking in fantastic shape.”

What is his job title in the Fury camp?

HATTON might not be Fury’s official trainer but has become close to the heavyweight star at the gym.

As a result he will be in the corner less in a coaching capacity and more in a supportive role – but expect him to offer any advice Fury might need on his big comeback night.

Hatton has been impressed with Fury’s dedication but admits he wasn’t convinced at first that he’d be able to avoid past temptations.

He said: “He has stuck at it. When he first did it, I thought he’d do it for a couple of months and then he’d be back on the p***.

“I’d walk in the pub and I’d see him there and think ‘ah, s***, he fell back’. But nobody’s seen him. The only place I’ve seen him is in gyms. I know where he goes and he’s been nowhere near.

“He was looking sensational in the gym. As press and fans and mates, we’ll only know when he has that first fight back. So there’s still a lot of ifs but he’s been looking sensational and I’m so proud of him.”
