Wigan Warriors boss will unleash the ‘Wrecking Ball’ again in 2017 – and hopes he’s even more destructive

SHAUN WANE insists he never had a worry that Frank Paul Nu’uausala would join Super League’s contract rebels.

And putting him through the wringer in pre-season may bring even more out of the man known as ‘The Wrecking Ball’.

Chris Sandow, James Segeyaro and Denny Solomona have all left Warrington, Leeds and Castleford respectively.

The first two claim homesickness was the reason for their decision while Cas have gone down the legal route after winger Solomona signed for Sale RU.

But Wigan boss Wane revealed he was never concerned that Kiwi prop Nu’uausala, who joined them midway through last season, would stay at home.

And he has warned the Warriors’ Super League rivals that the 29-year-old may be even better in 2017, even though he played a big part in their title win!

“Not once did the thought enter my head,” said Wane. “I had a chat to him straight after the Grand Final still on the pitch at Old Trafford.

“He loved it, he was walking around the stadium after the game.

“But that win meant more to him than anything else. I had a chat to him after he came back to training.

“He’s trained really well. He’s happy and his family have settled here in Wigan and he’s going to be a good asset to us again this year.

“Last year when he came mid-season he’d not really played for 10 or 11 weeks, but he’s come back and we’ve put him through it.

“There have been days where afterwards, he’s said to our staff that he’s never had a day that tough in his life.

“But I thought he was very good for us last year, he changed our season when he came in.”
