Wimbledon 2016: Heather Watson through to mixed-doubles final with Henri Kontinen

The Brit and Finland’s Henri Kontinen had never played together before SW19.

But yesterday they beat Oliver Marach and Jelena Ostapenko 7-6 6-3 to set up a showdown with 15th-seeded pair Robert Farah and Anna-Lena Groenefeld.
And Watson, 24, grinned: “It’s pretty damn cool. We said we’d play together as a joke initially.
“But then we got the chance to play here and we took it.
“We are brand new. Our first practise together was warming up together for our first match here.

Watson, who lost in her singles first round to Annika Beck, will play on Centre Court after Andy Murray’s final with Milos Raonic.

“It would mean absolutely everything to me to win. Not just a Grand Slam, but here.”
Kontinen, 26, added: “I always wanted to win Wimbledon and I thought my best chance would be with Heather.”
