Winter Olympics 2018: Horrific moment ice hockey star’s face left bloodied after being struck with skate
NORWAY versus Sweden is one of the fiercest rivalries in sport on the quietest of days – but add in the Olympic factor and there are always bound to be war wounds.
The two Scandinavian rivals, who were a united kingdom until 1905 when Norway separated, went at it in the ice hockey and there was predictable damage.
And Kristian Forsberg, the Norway centre, was the victim of a nasty bit of misfortune as he leaned in to try and win the puck, but was struck in the nose by a SKATE.
It was unclear at first whether the blade of rival player Joel Lundqvist bashed him in the nose or actually managed to cut his face.
But he dropped to the ice, writhing in pain after being struck in the second period.
The rare hockey injury forced the 31-year-old off the ice with a nasty-looking facial wound as he walked away with blood gushing from his nose.

Forsberg actually ended up serving a penalty for cross checking – pushing a rival into the boards using their stick.
Lundqvist, 35, was also penalised and thrown in the sin bin for high sticking for two minutes.
Meanwhile there was further woe for Forsberg as the Swedes went on to win 4-0 after full time, leaving Norway bottom of Group C after their first game.
Sweden are flying high at the top on three points, with Finland and Germany also in the same group.
