Winter Olympics: Team GB suffer heartbreak after narrowly missing out on women’s curling bronze medal to Japan


TEAM GB narrowly missed out on the chance of a bronze medal in the women’s curling event.

Japan secured their first ever medal in the sport with a 5-3 victory in Pyeongchang.

It was a brutal end for team GB, who found themselves battling for bronze after losing to Sweden in the semi-finals.

After the last Japanese stone came up short, Eve Muirhead had the chance to take the two with the final.

But it was a tough ask, and the Scottish curler from Blair Atholl sent the shot way wide of the target.

She kicked one of the stones in frustration as the GB women left the event empty-handed.

After the match, Eve Muirhead said: “Yeah, the shot was there and of course we went for it.

“As a skip, it’s hard when you miss the last shot.

“As a team, I am really proud of these girls.

“It’s hard to say we are going home with nothing. I am devastated.
