World Cup fans with tickets from controversial site Viagogo will be barred from stadiums

WORLD Cup fans with tickets from Viagogo will be barred from stadiums, Fifa has said.

The warning came as football’s governing body filed a criminal complaint against the tickets site yesterday over illicit sales for the finals.

Chiefs said they had had “numerous” complaints from fans and consumer groups over the firm’s “opaque and deceptive business conduct”.

Prosecutors in Switzerland, where Fifa is based, are now probing for alleged breach of competition law. Fifa said: “We regard illicit ticket sales and distribution as serious.

“Tickets bought via unauthorised channels, including all through Viagogo, will be cancelled once identified.

“Fifa reserves the right to refuse entry to holders of such tickets. We will conduct strict checks.” Many fans will have already have bought from reseller ticketing sites such as Viagogo.

Last night it was charging up to £3,317 to watch England play Belgium on June 28. The firm has repeatedly been blasted over inflated prices and opaque fees.

Last week minister Margot James warned fans: “Don’t choose Viagogo. They’re the worst.” It has been fined or faces probes in eight countries, including the UK.
