WWE ace Roman Reigns opens up on fans booing, beating Undertaker and being the full-time main man

ROMAN REIGNS says he’s still ‘the guy’ in WWE – even when the fans are booing him heavily on big shows.

The former Shield member features on all the big shows, in all the big matches – despite crowds turning toxic on him at almost every opportunity.

But, speaking to SunSport on Monday, Reigns said he could not care less about the negativity – as long as fans are buying the tickets.

Reigns said: “As long as fans are showing up and as long asthey’re making noise, I’ve done my job.

“I’ve done what I’m supposed to do and that’s draw people into the building.”

Fans booed Reigns in his main event match against Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania – and walked out of the arena in droves during his Backlash match against Samoa Joe last week.

Asked what he’s doing to combat the negative fan reaction, Reigns said: “I think the way I can fight is to just continue to do what I do – to continue to show up.

“What I and everybody in WWE thinks is to go out there and work hard and continue to show why I am the guy.

“It’s not easy doing this every single day, going to every single town, and getting a reaction. And that’s what I do regardless of whether it’s all cheers, a mixed reaction, or heavy boos.

WWE RAW Jinder Mahal is a new fans’ fav for bashing Roman Reigns

WWE star Roman Reigns speared the Undertaker in their iconic match

“We have to look at it as a global company. We’re not just worried about the one town that we’re in, we’re covering our entire fanbase.

“The WWE Universe is humongous. We have to keep that in mind.”

Reigns was booed again at the O2 last night, but he was anticipating the response from the UK fans.

He said: “It’s going to be a rowdy night. It always is in the O2. It can be extremely hostile – for me, at least.”

Reigns received a similar response last year, when WWE came to the UK just weeks after he had defeated Undertaker at WrestleMania 33 – seemingly retiring The Deadman.

Reigns was still not a hit with fan after beating Undertaker at Mania 33

But with ‘Taker making his return at Mania 34 and the Greatest Royal Rumble, SunSport asked if Reigns had received any feedback from the legend himself.

Does the Undertaker think Roman has done a good job of running “the yard”?

Reigns said: “I don’t like to talk too much about what me and the Deadman talk about. He’s still one of those characters – one of those guys in the locker room who has a lot of mystique.

“But he’s seen my body of work before we had our match and he’s seen what’s happened post that match – and I think I’ve done a good job of using everything I was able to take from him within that main event at WrestleMania.”

According to Reigns, Undertaker perfectly understands the position ‘the Big Dog’ is currently in – and the amount of work it takes to be the top guy in modern-day WWE.

Reigns said: “He’s one of those guys that’s pretty much labelled as the godfather of this business.

“He understands what’s going on – he understands the business and the shift we’re on. It’s a whole different ball game to what it used to be. There’s so much more content.

“It takes a little extra these days. Luckily, we have legends and veterans like Undertaker who give back. And I’m very grateful for that.”
