WWE Raw: Elias banks big Seth Rollins win and Baron Corbin is new constable

THERE are just two weeks until Money in the Bank on June 17 – and the superstars of Raw are already proving they’re ready for the high stakes show.

Here are five things we learnt from Raw last night.

Jinder Mahal and Elias get the win on WWE Raw

Elias has a big win over Seth Rollins

The WWE flagship show opened with an Elias song – a celebratory number after breaking a guitar over Rollins’ head last week.

(His opening spiel was comedy gold: “Think how I felt… I had to smash one of my favourite guitars!”)

In predictable and formulaic fashion, Rollins came out, followed by Jinder Mahal, followed by Roman Reigns – setting up a Rollins and Reigns v Jinder and Elias tag match.

Less predictable was the finish of the match. Elias DDT’d Rollins on a chair (the ref didn’t seem bothered) and hit the Driftaway for a pinfall victory over the IC champ.

It should be great stuff when the two clash for the title at MITB.

Elias is on fire as a heel and Rollins is having an incredible run of big match performances.

Baron Corbin is the new “constable” of Raw

Curt Hawkins was looking for a win in his 200th match, facing a jobber whose status is even more laughable than his own.

Curt promised the fans free tacos if he could finally win.

But Baron Corbin attacked the jobber and cost Hawkins a DQ loss – putting his losing streak at 0-200. In true bully style, Bazza then smashed Hawkins into the table of tacos.

Backstage, Corbin revealed that Stephanie McMahon has made him “constable” – implementing a new checks and balances system to ensure Kurt Angle is running the show properly.

Which basically means Bazza will be throwing his weight around and getting the Kurt’s face.

It’s at least a fresh spin on the tired authority figure gimmick.

It’s just a shame that the role’s gone to the charmless Baron Corbin, who’s natural position on the card is mushing tacos into the face of jobbers like Curt Hawkins.

Even ladders aren’t safe around Braun Strowman

MITB ladder match competitors Strowman and Roode faced off – and Roode hatched a plan to stop the Monster Among Men.

He suspended a giant ladder horizontal between ringside to barrier, then led Braun into a charge around the ring and into the ladder – hoping to chop the monster down.

Braun skidded to a halt and smashed the ladder in two with one swift wallop of “these hands”.

Roode looked flabbergasted before Braun hit the running power slam for the victory.

Can Braun finally be stopped at MITB?

In other ladder match news, fellow MITB competitors Finn Bálor and Kevin Owens battled, which ended with Finn delivering a huge Coup de Grace from the top of the ladder.

The B Team are number one contenders for the tag team titles

Matt Hardy and Bray Wyatt as tag champs are amusing, but the Raw tag team division might as well be deleted – it’s been dreadful in recent months.

Thankfully, the B Team – Bo Dallas and Curtis Axel – are here to save it.

Last night they scored a surprise win in a number one contender’s battle royal, earning a title shot at MITB.

(Which is fun, considering Bo Dallas and Bray Wyatt are real-life brothers.)

After years of losing, B Team are over with fans.

If WWE has the guts to do them justice and not treat them like comedy jobbers (case in point: having baked beans dumped on their head last week) the B Team could be A+.

Bobby Lashley is no match for Sami Zayn (on the mic, anyway)

Lashley came out to cut a promo on his upcoming match Sami Zayn, before Zayn appeared in the crowd.

After last week’s bone-breaking handshake, Sami refused to get in the ring with Lashley, but destroyed him verbally.

Zayn mocked Bobby posting inspirational quotes on Instagram – which sums up how painfully vacuous Lashley is – and claimed his good guy persona it’s money-making ruse.

Sami crossed the line when he said Lashley’s military service could a lie too. Don’t mock the patriotism, man.

Sami has been dumped with some awful stuff in this feud – including the blokes-dressed-up- as-Lashley’s-sisters segment – but he’s proving himself to be one of WWE’s best promos.

Meanwhile, Lashley just stood there with a stupid look on his face. What a shame the whole feud is designed to push the witless Lashley at Sami’s expense.
