Zlatan Ibrahimovic wants Manchester United to guarantee Champions League football before signing new deal

ZLATAN IBRAHIMOVIC wants Manchester United to qualify for next season’s Champions League before he signs a new contract, according to reports.

The Swedish superstar has been on fire since joining on a free transfer from Paris St Germain last summer, smashing in 24 goals in 37 games.

Ibrahimovic's contract runs out at the end of the season but there is an option to extend his stay for at least another year.

But United will apparently need to finish in the top four of the Premier League or win the Europa League if they want the 35-year-old to extend his deal.

United manager Jose Mourinho is desperate for Ibrahimovic to stay at the club and held showdown talks with him earlier this month.

And team-mate Chris Smalling revealed the United players are urging Ibrahimovic to stay, but are uncertain if he will.

The Swede is also wanted by clubs in the super-rich Chinese Super League as well as by Major League Soccer sides in the United States.

Ibrahimovic's agent, Mino Raiola, has also said the former Barcelona, AC Milan and Juventus man could return to Serie A with Napoli.

But next season could well be the last for Ibrahimovic, who turns 36 in October, and he wants to go out at the top.

United are currently sixth in the Premier League, two points behind fourth-placed Arsenal, who are in the final Champions League slot.

Another route to Europe's elite competition would be by winning the Europa League.

But after seeing off St Etienne with an aggregate 4-0 win this week, they were handed a gruellingly long-distance - and potentially violent - tie with Russian side Rostov.
