Unfortunately for the Colombian his ride wasn't up to the Dutchman's efforts as he missed the mark by 31 seconds. Dumoulin became the first ever Dutchman to win the Giro d'Italia, and in incredible fashion too.
Lying in fourth and overcoming a deficit on the last day shows Dumoulin to be a true GC conteder for years and produced one of the most exciting finishes of the Giro in recent memory.
