Canyon has been slow to the disc brake conversation. While a bunch of big-name bike companies are onto the second or third generation of disc brake road bikes, Canyon hesitantly dipped its toe in this summer with the introduction of its Endurace CF SLX.
We were immediately impressed with Canyon’s first attempt at a disc frame and eager to see the full line of Canyon bikes get the same upgrade. Now the wait is over. Canyon officially announced its full range of disc brake-equipped road bikes including the all-new Aeroad CF SLX, Ultimate CF SLX, Ultimate CF SL, Endurace CF SLX, and Endurace CF SL Disc models (including the women’s versions of these bikes).
The new disc models are more than just adaptations of the rim brake platforms. Instead, the bikes have been re-engineered from the ground up and tested by pro riders. Canyon says they’ll offer the same ride characteristics and handling performance of the previous models.

While Canyon was slow to release the bikes compared to other companies, like Specialized and Cannondale who have embraced disc brakes for years, it has been working on disc technology for some time. Canyon first started exploring the use of discs back in 2006 with its Projekt 6.8. This was a concept study on hydraulic brake systems that tipped the scales exactly on the UCI’s 6.8-kilometer minimum weight limit. The brakes were fully integrated into the frame’s design and controlled via specially adapted levers. Thanks to improved technologies over the past 10 years Canyon is no longer dealing with concepts.
We’ll aim to get these bikes for testing soon, but exact U.S. models and availability has yet to be announced.
