CeramicSpeed buys Colorado-based Friction Facts lab

CeramicSpeed, a Danish company known for producing high-end drivetrain upgrade parts, announced that it has purchased the Friction Facts laboratory.

In its Thursday announcement, CeramicSpeed explained how the Colorado-based laboratory will help the bearing and component manufacturer improve its research and development efforts. “By bringing Friction Facts into the team, CeramicSpeed expands its very own in-house development and test lab, which comes as a natural fit with our goals and mission,” said Martin Banke, managing director of CeramicSpeed. “This acquisition not only strengthens our commitment to providing the world’s fastest bearings, chains, and drivetrain components but also supports our efforts to continuously refine high-quality products driven by data, innovation and expertise. The lab will dramatically streamline our development cycle by allowing us to test the efficiency of prototypes immediately after they are pulled from the 3D printers.”

Friction Facts says that its lab equipment enables it to test drivetrain efficiency precisely and accurately — to within a margin of one-hundredth of a watt. In the past, VeloNews worked with Friction Facts to test a number of different chain lubricants.

As part of the merger, Jason Smith, founder of Friction Facts, was named the new chief technology officer for CeramicSpeed.

Tinkoff, Etixx – Quick-Step, Astana, and Dimension Data all used CeramicSpeed in the 2016 season, and Vincenzo Nibali won the 2016 Giro d’Italia while using the company’s bearings.
