Domestic racing heavyweight Eric Marcotte has signed with Cylance – Incycle p/b Cannondale for 2017, the team announced Tuesday.
The U.S. professional road and criterium champion, who is also a practicing chiropractor in Arizona, will represent the U.S. at the world road championship in Qatar next month before taking a break to prepare for the 2017 domestic road circuit.
“I’m grateful to get the chance to race and work with these guys,” Marcotte said. “I always hope to be able to contribute to the team’s success both on and off the bike. Looking forward to the year ahead.”
It’s been a tumultuous few years for Marcotte, who bounced from SmartStop to Jamis as the former folded, and who will now head to Cylance as Jamis closes up shop. It will be his third team in as many years.
He’s found success at each team, earning a pair of national championship titles with Smartstop and stepping onto the podium at the Tour of the Gila, Winston-Salem Classic, and Reading 120 this year with Jamis. The run of good results since 2014 makes him one of the U.S. scene’s top one-day racers, a powerful sprinter who is strong enough to make selections.
Now 36, Marcotte does not appear to be slowing down.
“Eric has an amazing ability to target major events and deliver,” said Cylance director Hilton Clarke. “He is one of the most professional riders with an amazing attention to detail. I look forward to him sharing his knowledge in nutrition and training with the younger riders on the team.”
Marcotte is joined by an Australian legend of American crit racing, Karl Menzies, who at 39 will play a key roll in the team’s sprint train, as well as Scott Law, a 25-year-old Australian with a long track racing pedigree.
“I truly believe Scott is going to be the new sprinter on the block in the US next year,” Clarke said.
