Team Sky has parted ways with its fellow British company Rapha for 2017, and as such revealed its new Castelli kit Thursday in London. We could talk about the technical fabrics or the tailored fit, but really, what’s up with those lines on the front of the jersey?
According to Sky and Castelli, the lines are a data visualization, representing the team’s lengthy resume of victories. Short dashes represent one-day races, and then the lines get longer, depending on the length of the stage race win. The four long lines are Tour de France victories — three for Chris Froome and one for Bradley Wiggins, even though he isn’t on the team any longer. Blue lines are for WorldTour races.
Sky says the design accounts for wins by 2017 team members, over the course of the team’s seven years on the circuit.
Coincidentally (or maybe not) Rapha did a line of data print apparel in 2015 with lines to represent Team Sky riders’ performance data from stages of the Tour de France.
