Pro Conti Team Roth to close up shop

The Swiss-registered Team Roth will shut down its Pro Continental outfit following just one year at the second division, the team announced this week. The Roth Gruppe organization will instead focus its efforts on its under-23 team.

After a season short on results — or invites to top-level races, for that matter — the Pro Conti squad will end operations after 2016, with the team citing financial concerns and the lack of a substantial co-sponsor.

“Without financial security it will be impossible for our team to continue at this level for another season,” said team owner Stefan Blaser via a release. “We greatly regret having to make this decision. Until shortly before the decision, we were still in negotiations for new partnerships, which have unfortunately not been brought about.”

Moving forward, Roth’s Swiss-focused under-23 development squad will earn the organization’s full attention instead.

“In keeping with the motto of ‘back to the roots,’ Team Roth will dedicate itself fully to supporting the next generation,” the team said in the release.
