Montpellier duo Bismarck du Plessis and Frans Steyn have been ruled out of South Africa’s three-Test series against England due to injury.
On Monday, Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus had initially revealed the pair would only miss the first Test but a couple of days later the decision has been taken to release them from the squad altogether.
“The players have undergone further investigations and specialist opinions and it was decided to withdraw them from the Springbok squad for the series against England,” a SA Rugby statement read.
While the injuries remain unspecified, the duo are reported to have sustained the knocks in the Top 14 final against Castres last weekend.
