Josh van der Flier ruled out for the season

Ireland openside Josh van der Flier has been ruled out for the rest of the season following an injury sustained in their 15-13 victory over France.

The flanker was substituted late in the first half after stepping awkwardly off his right foot and it has been confirmed that the Leinster player suffered serious knee ligament damage.

Dan Leavy came on for the back-rower and impressed as the Emerald Isle went on to record a last-gasp victory through Johnny Sexton’s drop-goal, but van der Flier’s absence will be a blow for head coach Joe Schmidt.
