Scarlets target Moriarty signature

Gloucester and British and Irish Lions back-row Ross Moriarty has been linked with a move to PRO14 champions Scarlets.

According to Wales Online, it appears Scarlets are the frontrunners for his signature, with Newport Dragons, Cardiff Blues and English giants Northampton also keeping tabs on the 23-year-old.

And according to the Gloucester Citizen, Scarlets head coach Wayne Pivac revealed at a fans event at Parc y Scarlets that Moriarty was his ‘main target.’

Moriarty admitted earlier this month that the interest in him was ‘flattering’ but is adamant he will see out the remainder of his contract which ends at the end of the season.

He told GloucestershireLive: “Personally I’m here for the season and I’m not sure what’s going to happen in the future but I’m here to play for this team and that’s what I want to do.

“I want to achieve something with this team and this group of boys and I’ll play the best I can, I’ll give as much as I can for the rest of the season and we’ll see what happens when the time comes.

“It’s always nice to have options and I’d be lying if I didn’t think it was flattering because who doesn’t want options?

“But I’m here for the season, that’s what my mind’s on and I’m just looking forward to playing for Gloucester again this season.”

Moriarty is still recovering from the back injury that prematurely ended his British and Irish Lions tour and is set to miss Friday’s season-opening clash with the Exeter Chiefs.

“I’m getting there, I’m taking my time and doing a lot of work with the conditioners and the physios,” said Moriarty.

“They’re guiding me in the right direction and making sure my body’s going to be good when I’m going to be able to play again.

“Hopefully it won’t be too long but we’ll see what happens.

“I’m just going to look forward to the season now and see if I can get back into form.”
