Tier 2 wrap: Wins for Fiji, Tonga and Georgia

There were wins for Tonga, Fiji, Georgia, Spain, Uruguay and Chile on Saturday as we bring you a round-up of the Tier 2 international action.

Romania 20-25 Tonga

Romania couldn’t back up last week’s win over Samoa as they went down to Tonga at Stadionul Arcul de Triumph in Bucharest on Saturday.

Leva Fifita, George Taina and Atieli Pakalani crossed for the islanders while Florin Surugiu and Johann Van Heerden went over for Romania.

Canada 17-57 Fiji

A rampant Fiji proved too strong for Canada as they eased to a comfortable 57-17 victory at the Parc des Sports et de l’Amitie in Narbonne.

The islanders bounced back from last week’s tough 23-20 loss to Ireland by showing their class against Kingsley Jones’ spirited Canadians.

Fiji named an excellent XV as Nemani Nadolo, Josua Tuisova, Levani Botia, Vereniki Goneva, Leone Nakarawa and Peceli Yato all started.

Georgia 21-20 USA

Georgia almost slipped up against the USA at Mikhail Meskhi Stadium in Tbilisi, but managed to finish with their noses in front, winning 21-10.

A penalty try to go with Levan Chilachava and Jaba Bregvadze’s scores cancelled out Joe Taufete’e (2) and Bryce Campbell’s five-pointers.

After a narrow loss to Wales, it was expected that Georgia would ease past USA but the Eagles were in this throughout and fell painfully short.

In other action…

Spain won well in Villajoyosa as they thumped Brazil 67-28, with Brad Linklater, Marco Pinto (3), Beñat Auzqui, Matieu Peluchon, Pierre Barthere, Tibaut Alvarez, Alvar Gimeno, Anibal Bonan and Fabien Perrin all crossing the whitewash for the victors, while Uruguay edged out Namibia 39-34 in Windhoek and Chile overcame Germany 32-10 in Offenbach.
