The three men arrested in connection with the violence that broke out at Moses Mabhida Stadium on April 21 have been granted bail.
The three men – a truck driver aged 35, a taxi rank manager aged 29 and a taxi owner aged 35 – appeared in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday morning, facing charges of public violence.
They were granted bail of R1 000 each.
The three were part of a group of fans that stormed the pitch after Kaizer Chiefs lost their Nedbank Cup semi-final game to Free State Stars. The grouop caused infrastructure damage amounting to millions of rand, as well as assaulting security guards.
The trio’s court appearance follows that of Phelelani Jojisa, 34, who appeared in court last week.
One of the accused is implicated in an attack on a security guard that was caught on camera, while another is believed to be responsible for damaging television cameras.
KwaZulu-Natal’s acting provincial police commissioner Bheki Langa, warned that more arrests will follow.
“It is only a matter of time before others are arrested,” he said.
“I would advise those who were part of the mob that went on a rampage on that unfortunate day to hand themselves over to police as one of these three who were arrested did. If not you will have to be continuously looking over your shoulders. We will not tolerate such hooliganism in this province,” he warned.
