County cricket: Surrey v Essex, Somerset v Yorkshire and more – as it happened

All the action from another exciting day of Championship action, as Mark Stoneman scored a brilliant century for Surrey against Essex

Right, folks, time for me to wrap up! Have seen a brilliant innings today, which is always nice. Wickets tumbling all over the place and they are still playing at Northampton! I can’t stay in a tent in Guildford forever, though. Here are out scores:

Division One:

Remarkably, there is still one game going on... A whopping 10 overs remain at Northampton. I’ll leave this open for a little while longer.

Stumps at Guildford, where Surrey have racked up 353 for five in 80 overs. A brilliant knock from Mark Stoneman, who relaxed in the final few overs playing for stumps but was belligerent until then. Sam Curran brought up a half-century in the final over of the day.

And Lancashire close just 57 behind.

Stumps at Leicester, where the hosts are 322 for seven against Sussex.

What a great ninth wicket stand at Red Canterbury. Northeast and Yasir Shah have put on 88 as they close 211 for eight, still 237 behind.

Wow! I look up and Josh Tongue has five for 16 in six overs as Glamorgan close 76 for six! They are 191 behind.

Surrey are 307 for five, and in the market for full batting points. Scurran looking good.

That’s the close at Taunton! 13 wickets fell on day one and Somerset close 161 behind on 41 for three.

Archer gets his fifth! Leicestershire 271 for seven.

Stoneman moves to 166, and his highest score for Surrey, with a gorgeous on-drive.

Josh Tongue’s good day continues at Worcester as he get Will Bragg, and Glamorgan are 46 for two.

Tendo has two! Foakes goes lbw, perhaps it stayed a little bit low. 280 for five, and a good fightback from Essex.

A ton for Mark Cosgrove!

And Buck gets Thakor, so Derbyshire are 67 for four.

Northeast and Yasir Shah have put on 50 for the ninth wicket at Red Canterbury...

Lancs four down! Croft caught in the deep off Murtagh and it’s 74 for four, 106 behind.

Wicket! Tendo comes on for his first full over of the day and he gets Sibley! He’s been caught behind. The batsman thinks the bat has hit the ground, the bowlers and fielders were convinced he’d smacked it. Off he goes. 274 for one.

Joe Leach gets Selman at Worcester and Glamorgan are 39 for one!

150 for Mark Stoneman! 173 balls, 21 fours and two sixes. Unbelievable knock and there are still 20 overs left.

262 for three the score.

Somerset 18 for three! Trescothick becomes Sidebottom’s third. Combined age 80 in that wicket and it’s not even the oldest of the day. Stevens got Collingwood – both are 41!

Derbyshire are three down, as Buck gets Madsen in his first over. 50 for three.

Only takes spectacular wickets, Jofra.

Another jaffa for @craig_arch to file in the 'unplayable' column.

But did this one get an inside egde?! We can't decide pic.twitter.com/qr0l4V3Yzd

Dom Sibley goes to 50; he has faced 99 balls, hit five fours and a pair of rather nice sixes. 241 for three, and the stand is worth 153 at almost 4.5 an over.

And now Abell goes for 0 and Somerset are 7 for 2!

Sidebottom gets Elgar are Somerset are six for one!

Kleinveldt gets Godleman and Northants have Derbyshire 28 for two.

And Kent are eight down! Coles goes to McCarthy. 123 for eight.

Leicestershire are 212 for five... Jofra Archer has four wickets.

Hameed goes to Harris! He made 18, his highest score since the first game of the season... Lancs are 50 for three.

Hameed and Croft have put on 50 at Southport. 130 behind.

Kent are seven down! Stevens gone to Main and the score is 120 for seven. Still 328 behind...

And now Tongue goes for 41. Worcestershire all out for 267. Solid enough.

Salter gets Barnard, but Worcestershire charge on and have a second batting point. Not bad from 14 for three. Tongue is having a swing. He has 35, and it’s 256 for nine.

Bess gets Carver and Yorkshire are all out. Might not be the worst score if there’s turn. 10 mins for the change of innings.

200 up, stand worth 115, so Wagner is doing his leg theory thing.

Jeevan Mendis opened for Derbyshire (Luis Reece is absent, unwell) but he went to the first ball of the innings! 0 for 1 in response to Northants’ 218.

200 for Yorkshire! And tea! Carver and Sidebottom have held Somerset up very well. They are not far off the longest partnership of the innings...

He gets there with a beautiful cover-driven four. He faced 118 balls for it, that was his 15th four and he also has two sixes. Next ball goes through backward point for four. Third ton for Surrey, and 19th in first-class cricket. A really lovely player to watch.

Stoneman to 98 with a pull, which has been best shot today...

Northants all out for 218 against Derbyshire and Conor McKerr, on loan from Surrey, ends with five for 87.

Kent take tea on 72 for six, a whopping 376 behind Durham.

Tea at Worcester, where the hosts are 235 for eight. Tongue has 24, and Barnard 51. They will want a point or two more for their batting. Glamorgan having a good day.

Into the extra half-hour at Ciderabad, where Yorkshire are 186 for nine...

Kent are six down! 83 for six as Rushworth gets Rouse.

Fifty for Ed Barnard at Worcester. He’s trying to haul them up to a half-decent score. 220 for eight in the company of Josh Tongue.

From the 21st ball of the innings, Lancashire are off the mark. Hameed has four off Rojo. No idea how, but he has four.

Into the fourth over, Lancashire are still 0 for two....

Kent are in big trouble against Durham, who posted 448. Kent now 55 for five. Northeast is still there, on 15.

No hat-trick at Southport...

Wicket straight away at Southport! Davies, who took six catches, goes for a second ball duck to Murtagh. Sounds like it could be his sort of track... 0 for one.

And Livingstone is gone first ball! Also caught behind. Murtagh on a hat-trick. Croft in, with Hameed at the nonstriker’s...

Tea time here at Guildford. Ravi bowled the penultimate over before tea, with Quinn off the field. Stoneman has raced to 90, including a lovely cut four off Harmer in the final over before tea, and Surrey are 146 for three.

With a ball to go in his over, Matt Quinn has pulled up. Gone in the shoulder, by the looks of things. Very odd. He just stopped in his run, took his jumper from the umpire and set off. Tendo to finish the over with the score 137 for three.

Northants subsiding against Derbyshire. They are 167 for seven.

Hodd is gone at Ciderabad, caught at mid-off off Gregory. 171 for nine and Sid in.

Oh, they’ve actually taken tea at Southport.

Worcestershire are seven down, and still don’t have a batting point. Shantry rides to the rescue...

Jordan Clark gets last man Ravi Patel to finish with three. Have had a few rumblings that it’s a rather clubbie track, but that has to be way below par. Hameed time...

Hodd has 50 for Yorkshire. What an admirable cricketer he is. 165 for eight.

Grievous Bodily Harmer has come on and Stoneman has slog-swept him for six. He has 74, and it’s 117 for three.

Kent are 29 for three, with all of them falling to Barry McCarthy. Dickson, Denly, then Bell-Drummond.

And Yorkshire are eight down, with Gregory bowling Patterson. 152 for eight.

McLaren gets Murtagh and Middlesex are nine down!

Alex Davies has six catches! England’s Toby Roland-Jones gone now, and Middlesex are 170 for eight.

Alex Davies has his fifth catch at Southport. Jordan Clark the bowler and Jimmy Harris the man to go. The Champions are 166 for seven.

Durham have Kent two down!

Oooohh Chesney Hughes in at Northampton after Ben Duckett went for 36. Northants 145 for four.

Yorkshire are seven down, as Rafiq goes to Coverton... 139 for seven, some strife.

Ben Cox is out! He’s gone for 93 to Dutch Timm, so Leach joins Barnard with Worcestershire 168 for six.

Wicket! He’s furious with himself, Sanga. He swished very hard on the drive at Porter and nicked to first slip, where Cook took a decent catch in the breadbasket. He swishes his bat as he walks off, as surprised as the rest of us. 88 for three.

Kent have lost an early one to Barry McCarthy! Dickson goes and they are six for one after Durham made 448.

Mark Stoneman had 50 for Surrey, and a very nice one too, from 60 balls. Edged through gully a couple of times early on but has looked good since. It’s 88 for two.

Ben Cox is now 87 from 88!

Middlesex in trouble again as Franklin chops on! Mahmood the bowler. That’s his third. 151 for six.

Pound sterling.

WICKET WATCH: @SaqMahmood25 gets Sterling caught behind by @aldavies23. pic.twitter.com/tztzIQImAz

Kumar off the mark first ball with a graze down the ground for one. Different class.

Wicket! Full and tight of line from Wagner does the trick at the start of a new over. Borthwick nicks through to Foster for 14. Well bowled. 75 for two, and enter KS Sangakkara. Stoneman just moved into the forties with a beautiful one-bounce four on the pull.

Durham all out for 448! Rushworth goes to Coles for 57. That’s that.

More carnage here at the CACG after lunch! Here are the latest 3 wickets to fall!

Yorkshire 99/6 from 41 overs#SOMvYOR pic.twitter.com/MIMuPrmOK9

Yasir Shah has a wicket for Kent! He gets Barry McCarthy, abd Durham are 448 for nine.

Ben Cox is into the 70s, and he’s found a handy ally in Barnard. Worcs 145 for five.

I hadn’t noticed that Gareth Roderick is back for the Glosters! Good news.

Paul Stirling blazed his way to 49 at Southport, but he’s gone now, caught behind off Mahmood. Middlesex 143 for five.

Yorkshire are six down! Leach has dismissed Waite, caught at slip. 95 for six.

His first ever. Durham are 442 for eight.

Durham are proving very frustrating for Kent.

A driven single moves Rushworth onto 47*, now his highest score in first-class cricket #KENvDUR

Leaning’s been Overtoned! Caught by Coverton, bowled by Joverton! Yorkshire are 95 for five, and in some strife.

Ravi coming on for a bowl!

Sussex, and Archer, have a second. Ackermann gone caught by van Zyl. 59 for two, are Leicestershire.

And Hutton gets van Buuren first ball! Gloucestershire 77 for four against Notts.

Just as he was at Headingley last week. Good to see.

James Anderson bowling during lunch of Lancashire v Middlesex. Good news for England. #bbccricket pic.twitter.com/5JPoyM38Zq

Now Handscomb gone at Taunton and Yorkshire are 86 for four! He was lbw to Joverton for 25.

Notts have a third. 77 for three now, Gloucestershire. Bancroft the man to gone, caught behind off Hutton for 37.

Nicely done.

Here's that Jack Leach wicket! Yorkshire 86/3 from 35 overs#SOMvYOR pic.twitter.com/NLB1hEIpKf

Worcestershire are five down as Dutch Timm gets Whiteley. 109 for five, with Cox vital. Glamorgan are into the allrounders, with Barnard there and Leach next. Tongue and Shantry are #NoMugsWithTheBat either.

Jack Leach has got Gary Ballance at Taunton. Ballance made 19 and was bowled. Good signs regarding Leach...

A good man doing some good.

Massive thanks to Zafar Ansari for joining us today at our #TCfinals! He's about to tell us how he got on whilst taking part today! pic.twitter.com/fYK15iAJID

Wicket! Porter has his first. Burns has a bit of a non-committal swish outside off and is caught behind. He made 14 and it’s 32 for one. Burns didn’t look delighted, but it looked out.

50 for Ben Cox from the first ball after lunch. 101 for four, are Worcestershire.

Moments away from resumptions in all the other games.

Surrey are 27 without loss after seven here.

A first wicket at Leicester, where early lunch means early restart. That man Jofra has got Harry Dearden, caught at slip by the safe hands of Chris Jordan. Sussex have Leicestershire 37 for one.

Porter has started very nicely indeed. He’s beaten Stoneman a couple of times, and had the leftie edging through gully twice too. 17 for none off five.

Oh dear. Fingers crossed he’s ok.

Oi oi Rod Stewart at the Riverside!

The stage is coming together & we're almost set for @rodstewart this evening! pic.twitter.com/ZchxtXoIGI

I notice Luke Fletcher got Will Tavare on the stroke of lunch at Bristol, where it sounds like a dog of a pitch. 67 for two there, the Glosters.

We have cricket at Guildford.

We have, erm, grey sightscreens at Guildford. Jamie Porter to kick us off against Burns and Stoneman.

And we are five minutes from a start at Guildford.

80 overs from 1.10 here. Pray for some spin.

Look great, don’t they?

In shock non-election-related news, serious amounts of Duking it out going on between London's Test grounds today pic.twitter.com/0Qo9c2tUkd

Early lunch at Leicester, but they are back on at Northants, and the hosts have lost another: 59 for three against Derbyshire. Duckett is in at No5.

Joe Clarke was bowled by Michael Hogan and Worcestershire are four down for 84. He put on 70 with Ben Cox.

Uncontested toss at Guildford, which is interesting. Surrey to bat first. Start in 25 mins; Essex unchanged, Surrey bring in Footitt and Batty for CurranT and Virdi.

Eskinazi goes caught behind to McLaren at Southport and Middlesex are in trouble at 72 for four...

Confirmation that Tommy Curran sits out for Surrey. Sam will be rested at some stage soon.

This, if you missed it last night, is magnificent.

I'm done #GeneralElection pic.twitter.com/9goJ4Z0udS

Durham are eight down and that is a quite legendary wicket. Stevens gets his fifth, Collingwood for 120. Pure BTL incest. 375 for eight, are Durham against Kent.

Oh dear, rain has arrived in the middle of the country. They are off for rain at Leicester and Northampton.

1.10 start. Toss at 12.40. Tea is 3.40, finish at 6.30.

Looks like Tom Curran’s going to have a rest, which seems fair enough. He’s been playing rather a lot of cricket and we don’t want him ground into the dust. Batty replaces Virdi, if the scorecard is correct.

A story that made me smile yesterday: Middlesex got the train to Southport. They often get the train to games, which I really rather like. To get to Southport, they needed to not just change trains, but change station, at Wigan. So there the champions were, wandering through Wigan, all suited up for an away day, with rather a lot of kit, to get from one station to the next. Their catchphrase is ‘humble and hungry’, which sounds about right. Good on ‘em. Anyway, they are struggling a bit now they are there. 59 for three.

Ben Duckett not even batting in the top four for Northants! They are 56 for two.

I’m going to shock you here: Darren Stevens has a fourth. Potts on debut the man to go for 0. What a remarkable effort to concede just 67 across his 31 overs so far. Durham are 356 for seven with Colly on 109.

First wicket to spin at Ciderabad! Bess gets Lees. 38 for two.

Stevo’s got Poynter at Red Canterbury! 356 for six. In the final points over, Kent have picked up a second bowling point. Durham will finish with four batting points.

Even Sanga is involved in Surrey’s football-based warmup!

Oh dear. Malan has pulled Bailey to fine leg and Middlesex are three down for 38! Not a great way to go...

Nibble.

WICKET WATCH: A second wicket for @LancsCCC and it's @TomBaildog that dismisses Robson. Really good work from wicket keeper @aldavies23. pic.twitter.com/yD3U38px5f

Wicket at Taunton! Adam Lyth caught in the gully off Joverton. 34 for one are the Yorkies. Bess is already bowling...

Good news: Chesney Hughes is playing for Northants again! Shame that he’s batting three places too low at No6.

Middlesex are two down as Bailey gets Robson caught behind. 32 for two, with Eskinazi and Malan together. Stirling in next...

News from Guildford: early lunch at 12.30, with a view to starting at 1.15. Might be optimistic.

THE IRISHMAN

The partnership between the Irishman & Collingwood is another useful one & now stands at 62 runs #KENvDUR

Nick Gubbins out early at Southport, caught behind off Saqib Mahmood. People know how much I love me a bit of Nick Gubbins, but also how much I love me a bit of Saqib Mahmood. Conflicted. Middlesex 30 for one.

Worcestershire are 14 for three! Mitchell got a duck and now Fell and Dolly have both gone for seven!

We’ve had more rain here, but the umpires are having a look now. I reckon we will do well to start before 1.30-2.

Right, apologies. Just popped for a coffee. But I’m back. With news of a Paul Collingwood hundred in Red Canterbury! Lovely stuff. 351 for five are Durham. In the market for five batting points!

An early wicket at Worcester! Mitchell, the man in form, gone for a duck! 4 for one are Worcestershire as Tom Fell hits his first ball for four.

Seems a convenient moment to discuss Tom Kohli-Cadmore, who has joined Yorkshire immediately. He is from there, and wanted to move home at the end of the season. Worcs made it clear he would be frozen out for the foreseeable future and arranged for him to go with immediate effect. All a bit sad because Yorkshire and the player – who is copping pelters on twitter – really hasn’t done anything wrong. If anything, he’s conducted himself well, making his intentions clear early. His best mates are Joe Clarke and particularly Fell (remember TKC shaving his head last year when Fell was having chemo?). All a bit of a shame.

Looks like Gareth Batty is fit to play for Surrey, as and when we get cricket.

Surrey’s football has started. As usual, Mark Footitt has his goalie gloves with him.

Interesting that Ben Duckett is keeping for Northants, and not opening the batting.

Inspection at 11.30 here, but we won’t be playing any time soon. It’s very wet.

Sun out, covers coming off.

The rain has stopped at Guildford!

Some resting going on for Yorkshire at Ciderabad. Coad had sore shins, Brooks won’t hate a rest either. Bres with his wife as she gives birth. Two spinners.

.@YorkshireCCC team: Lyth, Lees, Handscomb, Ballance c, Leaning, Hodd w, Rafiq, Waite, Carver, Sidebottom, Patterson.

Division One:

Morning Stuie! Glos have been put in to bat by Notts.

@willis_macp morning will! Cmon glos

So Middlesex have an interesting team out at Southport. Ravi Patel is in for Ollie Rayner, and James Harris is back from Kent and playing ahead of Tom Helm. Nick Compton dropped to the 2s, but Sam Robson is back from his hamstring injury.

Lancashire have made on change: Luke Procter out, Liam Livingstone in. Pretty simple one, that. Good to see Saqib Mahmood get another game.

Here’s Gary Naylor’s county cricket talking points. As fine a final over as ever.

Related: County cricket talking points: Hampshire hit top spot as Durham decline further

And Sussex are having a bowl at Leicester. No toss.

Northants have been stuck in to bat by Derbyshire, without a toss.

And Yorkshire have won the toss and will bat first at Ciderabad.

Middlesex have won the toss and are batting at Southport. There is absolutely no prospect of a toss here at Guildford any time soon.

This is amazing. Someone else has ended up with Jimmy Ormond’s England cap.

It’s hammering it down now. Brilliant.

That rain’s getting heavier. Uh oh. Lots of covers coming on.

So it’s raining at Guildford. Not heavy, but the covers are on and it’s an outground so the drainage isn’t going to be *world class*. Delayed start, surely.

Morning all it’s the morning call!

Happy Friday, and welcome to a new round of County Championship action. I’m Will Macpherson, I’m in a frightfully good mood (no idea why) and I’ll be here – not definitely at Guildford, but somewhere – for the next four days to talk you through the cricket. We have eight games, one of which is underway. Should be cracking.
