The Group Three Diomed Stakes, rerouted to Newbury from its traditional home at Epsom, is Saturday’s highlight and revolves around John Gosden’s King Of Comedy or, more precisely, what is between the four-year-old’s ears.
He had several top-class runs to his credit at three and looked unlucky in the St James’s Palace Stakes. But his attitude deteriorated steadily as the season wore on and he appeared to throw in the towel in the QEII in October.
