Wrestling legend Chris Jericho has Olympic-sized aspirations for the sport he has loved and excelled in for a long, long time.
To date, professional wrestling has never been part of the Olympics due to the outcomes of matches being predetermined. The entertainment element of the sport has exceeded the competitive element of the sport since the outcomes are based on storylines written into existence.
Jericho doesn’t believe this should be a deterrent for the sport’s participation in the Olympics.
“I literally want to go in front of the IOC, the International Olympic Community, and pitch pro wrestling as an Olympic sport,” Jericho said on Talk With Jericho.
“Now you might go, ‘How can you do that? It’s all [scripted].’ Now, hold on. Stop right there. Gymnastics, pairs gymnastics, figure skating, pairs figure skating, what is that? It’s two people working together to put on the best performance possible. There is no way we could not do the same with pro wrestling.”
Professional wrestling is not currently part of the Olympics, but amateur wrestling is part of the Summer Games. Jericho would like that to change, and it would be interesting to see how he could make that happen.
