There is plenty of work to be done if Team USA wants to improve upon its fourth-place showing in the medal count at the PyeongChang Olympics in 2018.
Team USA arrives in Beijing with the largest delegation at the 24th Winter Games with 224 athletes, the country's second-largest delegation in its Winter Olympic history.
The United States has not won the overall medal count since 2010 at the Vancouver Games, although it finished third in the gold medal count.
Snowboarder Julia Marino earned Team USA's first medal in Beijing with her silver medal in women's slopestyle to get the U.S. on the board.
No Americans won a medal on the first full day of action in Beijing following the opening ceremony but plenty of stars (Nathan Chen, Jessie Diggins, Kendall Coyne Schofield and the women's hockey team) have begun competition in their respective events.
