If you’ve ever been to a golf course, you know that it is difficult to follow around players and know how well they are doing compared to those at the next hole. Pro-ams competing in the Symetra Tour — the official qualifying tour for the LPGA — won’t have to worry about that anymore. The tour has partnered up with 18Birdies, a mobile golf technology startup that will provide users with live pro-am score updates.
“You always hear pro-am participants say ‘I wonder how we are doing so far’ so I think the 18Birdies Tournament+ Scoring solution adds a new competition dimension for those that really want to win,” Mike Nichols, Chief Business Officer of the Symetra Tour said in a statement. “It’s also great for our pro-am groups that just want to have fun because they can post photos and videos in real time with other groups on the app.”

Professionals, who began using the app during the POC Med Golf Classic event in Windsor, Calif. earlier this month, will update scores immediately following each hole. Now, pro-am golfers will be able to see a live leaderboard and interact with other playing groups in real-time.
Pro-ams will be able use 18Birdies starting at the next Symetra Tour event, the Sara Bay Classic in Florida, on April 20. The Symetra Tour is in the 37th competitive season.
