Basketball season is upon us! A time to marvel at the athleticism and skill, as the shot clock winds down, and the fourth period buzzer is about to sound. For those of us who want even more basketball in our lives, here are the four best NBA apps to help you keep up with the season, and, of course, your favorite teams.
1. Your Team’s App
The NBA has official apps for every franchise in the league, made just for you to follow your team’s game-to-game success (or failures) even closer than ever before. Each app features live statistics for the team’s season, as well as stats for each player on the roster. There is also a schedule provided for you to scroll through the team’s past and upcoming games, as well as an in-game tracker, so you can follow along live with every basket as the game is being played.
There is a wealth of additional information throughout each app, including which channel you can find the current game’s live broadcast and details of each team’s home arena layout. If you’re looking for specific information tailored to just one team, one of these apps is the way to go. The app categories are divided into pages for the Eastern Conference and for the Western Conference.
The NBA has another official app for this season, focused on providing a general source for following any league game live, rather than limiting yourself to those of your own team. It provides many of the same features as the official team apps, but with a more league-wide focus. The app includes game recaps and videos, as well as the same scheduling features of the specific, franchise-oriented applications.
3. theScore
theScore is a personal favorite of mine, simply because it has the best all-in-one package for every sport you follow, freeing up a ton of storage space on your phone. theScore also has some of the best live reporting and notifications of any sports app, allowing you to subscribe to your team’s news feed; and be notified whenever the latest blockbuster trade reshapes your entire roster into a star-studded playoff contender, or if your favorite player to hate has just been ruled out for the next game due to his latest DUI arrest or excessive flopping.
4. WatchESPN
Stuck at a bad party? Need to pass time on your commute? Is the game on, but haven’t gotten home yet? WatchESPN has you covered. Featuring real-time coverage of all your favorite sports and teams, this app is a must have for the mobile sports fanatic. After signing into the app through your cable service provider, you are granted access to a multitude of different games playing on television at that exact time. WatchESPN also allows you to view ESPN, ESPN2 (and 3), as well a few other channels directly from your phone. You’ll never have to worry about missing a game again with this app.
