Atlanta Hawks Look To MOCAP Analytics To Analyze Player Data, Engage Fans

The Atlanta Hawks are renewing their partnership with MOCAP Analytics, a sports analytics company based in Silicon Valley. MOCAP will provide the Hawks with performance data so that the team can better understand the trends in its players’ techniques.

The team has been partnered with MOCAP for the past couple years to create digital media content driven by players’ performance data. MOCAP has worked to bring creative graphics like word clouds that show which are the key parts of a player’s game.

More is coming from the Hawks’ partnership with MOCAP. Prior to working with the Hawks, MOCAP had the Golden State Warriors as an early adopter in 2011. Hawks executive director of player performance Keke Lyles also worked with MOCAP while he was with the Warriors to track players’ fitness and performance.

So going forward, the Hawks’ plan is to use this data to inform their own players of ways to enhance their game as well as use it as a way to share information with fans in a fun, visual way.
