Banc of California Stadium, the home of Major League Soccer’s Los Angeles FC, has launched a virtual reality mobile app that allows fans to explore the venue from afar.
The app is powered by LA-based VR and AR design company ROK360 and is an upgrade to the virtual reality system that had been in operation before the stadium’s construction was complete, according to an LAFC press release. The stadium opened in April and in its first six months has hosted concerts and esports events alongside soccer.
Users can look around the field and the premium club spaces in the venue by selecting different camera angles. There is even the option to switch configurations so that the premium spaces can be viewed the way they would be set up for dinners or conferences. While the app doesn’t give fans an ability to watch game action, its purpose is more to provide some experience of the venue itself.
The Banc of California Stadium VR app is free, but only currently available for iOS devices. No headset is required to use the app.

In December 2017, the Minnesota Vikings also released a virtual reality app that brings users “inside” its home stadium. Both that and the Banc of California Stadium app are designed as a way to attract visitors to the venues themselves, rather than as a way to view live games. However, the Vikings app does include action from previous home games, as thus is better angled as a way to bring in fans rather than simply advertise the space.
