Boston Red Sox, Museum of Science Partner To Bring STEM To Kids

The Boston Red Sox have teamed up with the Museum of Science, Boston, in a multi-year partnership that will bring baseball-inspired STEM content to the more than 70,000 members of Red Sox Kid Nation, the team’s fan club for fans 14 and younger.

“As a part of our effort to connect baseball to the next generation of fans, we have broadened our outreach and partnerships to ensure we connect with kids in new and unique ways,” Red Sox Executive Vice President Troup Parkinson said in a statement. “Our partnership with the Museum of Science, Boston, will introduce baseball to kids through the sciences and hopefully spark a love learning and a love for baseball.”

The Museum of Science will contribute to the development of integrated baseball and science content into Wally & Tessie’s STEM Workbook. The book will be made available later this season during home games at Fenway’s Kid Nation booth and at Wally’s Clubhouse, both located on the Kids Concourse near Gate B of Fenway Park.

In addition to the workbook, the Museum of Science will develop a Red Sox-themed Design Challenge. Design Challenges, which are aimed at students grades four through 10 as well as family groups, guide participants through the creating, building and testing stages of their prototype to solve an engineering design problem.

The partnership will kick off on April 29 and 30, when the Museum will hold its first Red Sox Weekend.

This collaboration is in natural extension of our programs and exhibits, expanding our capacity to make science and engineering accessible to all,” Museum of Science director and president, Ioannis Miaoulis said in a statement. Together, the Museum of Science and the Red Sox will inspire kids to see themselves as STEM learners and push the boundaries of what’s possible.”
