BSX Athletics, founded in 2012, is a Texas-based sports tech company that develops smart technology for endurance athletes. They have recently announced the launch of the second generation BSXinsight.

The original BSXinsight was released last December. The device allows athletes to measure fitness and determine training levels. BSX Athletics has improved BSXinsight by extending the device’s capabilities to include real-time monitoring of muscle oxygenation, daily activity tracking, and third party connectivity. There is better firmware, software, and a redesigned app and website. You can see our full preview of the product’s launch here.

BSXinsight collects personal workout information. It enables athletes to alter their workouts to meet the optimal training performance. The device brings precision and understanding to training. It syncs users’ training data to not only iOS and Android devices, but also sports watches and bike computers. The information is easily stored for users to track and see their data. From there, you are able to improve your training.

The device uses optical technology and consumer sage LEDs to track the critical energy systems in the muscles. The information is then translated for the users to understand the their workouts better and it can help identify trends and opportunities to improve performance.

A custom compression sleeve comes with BSXinsight. It can be worn anywhere, but it is recommended that you wear it on your calf. The sleeve connects with ANT+ foot pods, heart rate monitors, and power meters. BSXinsight only weighs 20 grams and can be used continually for up to eight hours.

“Muscle Oxygenation [SmO2] is a new concept to the athletic world, but one that is gaining tremendous traction, and will soon be recognized as the most important real-time metric possible,” explains CEO of BSX Athletics, Dr. Dustin Freckleton. “Oxygen is the central piece of energy production which makes muscle oxygenation critical for any athlete to keep track during their training. Similar to heart-rate training, muscle oxygenation can help you understand your daily training. However, where heart-rate is influenced by conditional factors like stress, temperature, sleep and hydration. SmO2 is constant, more dependable and accurate. Muscle oxygenation is also much more immediate.”

BSX Athletics has a mission of empowering athletes to continually break personal records through meaningful, accessible, and actionable insights. With the help of BSXinsight, athletes are able to quickly access information that outlines how they have performed. It is aiming to transform and personalize the way athletes are training.
