Palm Beach, FL – Space—the final frontier, coming soon to your golf bag. Earlier this week, Cobra announced the re-launch of its King line, and with it the new King LTD—its first zero CG driver.  Taking the torch from two-time Major Champion Greg Norman, Rickie Fowler is the face of the new line.

The clubs are designed in a first of its kind partnership with the Center for the Advancement of Science in Space (CASIS). Using CASIS’s insights from the International Space Station, Cobra says they are able to create the most technologically advanced golf products in the world, and are able to use the seal “Space is in it.” It is the first time CASIS has permitted the seal to be printed on products.

Speaking about this partnership, Greg Johnson, a CASIS representative, says, “Part of our mission at CASIS is to attract new, innovative, non-traditional users to exploit the capabilities of the space station for earth benefit.”

The unique new driver includes a “space port” inspired by the International Space Station itself. The portal allows the interior technology of the club to be visible through a window. While this certainly heightens the club’s “cool factor,” it also serves various purposes. It is a 16g weight strategically positioned to create extremely low CG with high MOI. In layman’s terms? It makes it easier to hit the ball straighter and farther.

Mike Yagley, Cobra Golf’s Director of Innovation & Research describes the technology of the driver saying, “The center of gravity is on a line standing straight back from the center of the face. What that does for you, as a golfer, is it creates highly efficient impacts. It gives you more ball speed, less spin, higher launch angle. Basically, more distance.”

Fowler, currently the PGA’s 8th ranked golfer, is still in the testing phase with the King LTD. He aims to get it into play as quickly as possible, in time for next season.

Not unlike his course attire, the look and aesthetic feel of the club is important to Fowler. Its distinctive black and orange color scheme is a nod to his collegiate golf team, Oklahoma State University. The Cobra Puma Golf collaboration with CASIS will extend to Fowler’s beloved university as well. “The Rickie Fowler Foundation is partnering up with Oklahoma State University where we’re going to work on providing scholarships benefiting science, technology, engineering and math,” Fowler announced, adding, “I will always bleed orange.”

The King Cobra LTD is best suited for tour players to ten handicaps, but all levels of golfers can appreciate its performance. This new space technology is available in stores in early November—then consumers can decide for themselves whether or not Houston has a problem.
