Daily Briefing: WNBA’s Atlanta Dream and New York Liberty Sign Regional TV Deals

  • Atlanta Dream Games to Broadcast on WSB-TV and Stream Online: The WNBA’s Atlanta Dream and WSB-TV have announced a multimedia partnership for the 2019 season. A total of 18 Dream games, including eight road contests, will broadcast on WBS-TV and also streamed on WSBTV.com and through the WSB-TV news app. Four games will also be shown on the Bounce TV channel in the Atlanta area. The Dream will have its other 16 regular season games presented nationally through the WNBA’s deals with Twitter, ESPN, and CBS Sports Network. “We feel that creating new, easy access to 18 home and road games will help us reach a larger and younger demographic while concurrently growing our fan base,” said Dream President and General Manager Chris Sienko in a press release.
  • YES Network Signs on as New York Liberty’s Regional TV Partner: The YES Network has signed a deal to become the New York Liberty’s official regional TV partner this WNBA season. YES will televise 16 of the Liberty’s 17 home games, with CBS Sports Network broadcasting one Liberty home game as part of its new deal with the WNBA. All 16 games on the YES Network’s Liberty schedule will also be streamed live on the FOX Sports GO app. The first YES Liberty telecast will be tomorrow at 8:00 p.m. ET when the Liberty host the Indiana Fever at the Westchester County Center on the opening day of the season.
  • The USGA and Cisco Launch U.S. Open Golf Streaming Web App: The USGA has launched an over-the-top streaming web app in partnership with Cisco, the official technology partner of the USGA. The app will contain free, live-streaming bonus coverage of the U.S. Open, U.S. Women’s Open, U.S. Senior Open, and the U.S. Amateur and Women’s Amateur championships. Archived highlights from past U.S. Opens and U.S. Women’s Opens will also be available, as well as original programming dedicated to the careers of golf legends such as Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus. The app is currently available for Apple TV and Roku devices.
  • Indian Cricket Team Will Train With STATSports Ahead of World Cup: Players on the Indian national cricket team will have their training performance tracked by STATSports devices in advance of the ICC Cricket World Cup. Players will wear GPS tracking devices to measure metrics such as distance, speed, acceleration, deceleration, high-speed running, and dynamic stress load. India’s fitness staff will then use the data to manage workloads and injury rehabilitation. The World Cup will take place in England and Wales starting May 30. Many of Europe’s top club soccer teams also use STATSports, as well as the U.S. Soccer Federation and Chinese Soccer Federation.
