In an age where many professional teams are looking for every single sports science edges imaginable, many of them have passed over one of the most basic yet important things an athlete can do for their body: Sleep.
While some coaches have been progressive about making sure their players get a good night’s rest, it is still something that is relatively on the fringes in the sports landscape.
The Denver Broncos though have recently been one of the NFL’s more progressive teams. They recently announced they were going to use data analytics to optimize their play calling on the field and last week they announced in an effort to enhance sleep performance for players (and coaches) that they were going to partner with Bedgear Performance Bedding.
Bedgear has already signed partnerships with the National Hockey League’s New York Islanders and Major League Baseball’s New York Mets, San Diego Padres and Detroit Tigers. They are now partnering for the first time with the NFL with the Denver Broncos.
Bedgear’s partnership with the Denver Broncos is their initial step to introduce their bedding products to the players, coaches, team staff to help them achieve optimal performance through better rest and maximum recovery. Despite sleep experts saying that quality sleep is paramount for optimal performance it also has links to improved focus, memory, energy levels and reactionary times performing in-games tasks.

“The Denver Broncos are excited to partner with Bedgear this season,” said Dennis Moore, VP Sales and Marketing with the Denver Broncos. “Studies show the importance of sleep in terms of performance recovery, and this partnership offers the ability for Bedgear to promote its lineup to our fans through a strategic partnership with the team and Denver Mattress.”
Bedgear’s products go beyond the normal one size fits all that has traditionally been the mode of operations for bedding providers. The company personalizes each player and team staff in order to provide them a personalized pillow that fits their body size and sleeping position preference. What this creates is an optimal sleeping situation whether you are 5-11, 180 pound receiver Emmanuel Sanders or 6-5, 335 pound offensive lineman Louis Vasquez.
“Bedgear’s values align perfectly with the Broncos sleep initiatives and working with the team was a great choice for us due to our strong retail presence at hometown retailer, Denver Mattress, the Official Furniture & Mattress Sponsor of the Broncos. Denver Mattress possesses an experienced sleep sales team, so fans that want to get recovery, performance and achievement like their favorite player can visit the store nearest them and be guaranteed the same personalized fitting process,” said Shana Rocheleau, VP of Strategic Development at Bedgear.
This is a part of an eight week retail promotional campaign by the company as fans are encouraged to register to win a Broncos VIP experience. Fans will be able to get fitted just like their favorite Denver Broncos players and try out the products themselves including the customized pillows.
Bedgear sent over a couple of pillows to SportTechie and we can say that the sleep experience is definitely noticeable in the brief time we have used the products.
BedGear CEO Eugene Alletto also answered a few more follow up questions we had for him about his line of sleep products:
How do elite athletes benefit from Bedgear products?
Getting maximum recovery at night is essential to achieving your goals; for athletes, this is even more critical, since you may get only one opportunity and you need to be at your peak. At bedgear, we created the process of personalized pillow fittings to help each individual find the right pillow based on their sleep position and their body type, to ensure they get the best performance out of the time they spend in bed.
What is the specific technology that Bedgear provides users to help them sleep better?
The greatest thing tech and innovation have brought to sleep is knowledge. Simple adjustments in temperature, spine alignment and what we do leading into the time we choose to sleep have a ton of impact on the quality of rest. This knowledge allowed bedgear to pioneer performance in bed and set about creating materials that wick heat and moisture away from the body to help you temperature regulate at night.
What teams and athletes are currently using Bedgear products?
The NY Mets, San Diego Padres, NY Islanders, Detroit Tigers and Denver Broncos, plus numerous individual athletes, from Lindsay Van, who pioneered Women’s Ski Jumping as an Olympic sport, and her teammates, to Jordan Scott on the Olympic Pole Vault team, and extreme bikers, like Andrew Taylor and Javier Villegas.
