The popular daily fantasy sports platform, DraftKings, has partnered up with sports data provider Opta with aims to add more excitement to the daily fantasy game.
DraftKings is one of the leading providers of daily fantasy sports and hopes this partnership will engage new fans and help expand their consumer market. Opta collects, packages, and distributes live data to illuminate every area of sports from live broadcasts to professional performance analysis. Opta will supply DraftKings with live football performance statistics for the English Premier League, North America’s Major League Soccer, and the Uefa Champions League European club competition.

The partnership will focus on new features like squad expansion and statistics. Users can now draft a team of eleven with a goalkeeper, three defenders, three midfielders, two forwards, and two utility players. Increasing the team hopes to shake up the fantasy game for old and new users. The scoring categories include statistics on tackles and passes intercepted, adding more strategy for users to utilize. Engaging users with these new features aims to expand into new markets with additional consumers.
Check out a full breakdown of the new scoring system. Changes from the previous scoring system include the addition of points for tackles won and intercepted passes. The scoring system also has negative points for fouls conceded and yellow cards. The squad expansion with more positions on the team is rewarded with the new statistics in the game.
