Engineering firm Pace Insights is altering how coaches process information and, in turn, utilize that data to improve performance and achieve a competitive advantage — even if it is by the slightest of margins.
The company on Tuesday launched its sports analytics-as-a-service, which is believed to be the first of its kind in the marketplace; it will be available to new and current clients.
With its roster of 30-plus Olympic and professional sports teams — including Team Sky, Great Britain Boxing, British Sailing and British Athletics — Pace can deliver actionable insights from injury risk management and race performance analysis to race strategy and technique refinement. In addition, its data will assist its sports customers in team funding, selection justification and talent identification research.
“The challenge that sports teams have is that many have monitoring equipment and information, but are unable to process it to produce actionable insights,” Samir Abid, CEO of Pace Insights, said in a statement. “Our analytics-as-a-service provides a means for sports teams to gain instant insights from the data they are collecting, which will ultimately allow them to achieve critical marginal gains.”

Pace, which builds both hardware and software for teams, touts three core benefits for coaches and teams who use its new service, with the first being the aforementioned insights via new and existing data. Coaches can send raw data to Pace’s platform, and their analytics machine will now reply with a full report.
That data will also be available on-demand via email in a matter of minutes, so coaches and players can digest the information and immediately incorporate it competition. Finally, improved overall efficiency will allow coaches to focus their time on coaching versus processing data and compiling reports.
“We’ve chosen a simple delivery format, to provide a readily accessible service for coaches,” Abid said. “All the high-tech processing happens behind the scenes. They send us data, we reply and reduce the time to insight, providing customers with the ability to more easily iterate on their ideas for analytics and reporting solutions.”
